The listing is for a Vintage Silver Operculum Filigree Necklace. The necklace has 9 stations of bezel set operculum shells with a decorative filigree frame which are connected by double chains. There is a center set filigree heart drop with center set operculum. Operculum are the remnants of the â€śtrap doorâ€ť like covering on a snails shell. Because they resemble eyes the are sometimes referred to as Cat's Eye or Evil Eye. These were very popular during Victorian times; worn as part of superstition to provide protection against the evil eye.

Marks: unmarked; acid tested as silver
Measurements: 16 1/8 inches long total (end to end), 9 9/16 when clasped to end of heart drop and 1.0545 inches at widest. The operculum is 18.33 mm long and 16.50 mm wide.
