Art Deco Marathon Tricolor Locket | IJWU Locket | International Jewelry Workers Union
$240.00Ask a question
The listing is for an Art Deco Marathon Tricolor Locket. This beautiful large locket is in the shape of a rectangle with clipped corners. The locket features a lovely wonderful tri-color engine turned vertical design on the front with an emblem. The emblem reads: International Jewelry Workers Org 1916. The International Jewelry Workers Union was a service-oriented union whose members included those employed in the retail jewelry trade such as diamond cutters, watchmakers, crystal and dial repair professionals, optical technicians and dental assistants.
The locket opens by pushing the hinge tab and inside it contains two large lovely photos. The locket contains the original two frames that hold the photos inside in place. The photos can be replaced to accommodate a new loved one by buyer if preferred.
The locket was made by the Marathon Co. Established in 1897, Marathon Company is a family owned and operated jewelry manufacturing company.
Weight: 17.7 grams
Marks: Marathon on the inside picture frame. Not marked for metal content. I believe it to be gold plated/filled from some of the wear areas where it has been loved. I didn't want to acid test the piece as not to damage it.
Measurements: 1.7870 inches long and 1.2480 inches wide. It hangs approximately 2 inches from bezel to bottom.
Condition: Hinge and closure are working and it snaps shut nicely and securely. There is wear and character to the piece consistent with age/use (see photos). The piece has not been polished and shows patina which can be cleaned by buyer if preferred.
Would make a great gift for a jeweler or labor union memorabilia collector.
❤All items in my shop are Estate, Vintage, and some even older which means they show age and wear consistent with being preloved.❤
